2022
Participatory Art Project, Fabric Banners and Collective Action
Lead Artist

Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria

A project working with students from Furness Academy in Barrow-in-Furness Cumbria to explore their ideas and opinions about their local environment through creative workshops, and share their work with key local decision makers. The work was part of a larger research programme led by the University of Central Lancashire, and supported by Art Gene.

Over the course of four sessions, student’s developed a range of artworks including collage, printed typography works, ink drawings and hand screen printed t-shirts. Working with the ideas and designs created during the session, as Lead Artist I created a series of three fabric banners and worked with the group to process these through the town centre of Barrow to the Town Hall where they were presented to members of Barrow Town Council, including the current mayor.

Banners, and photographs to be exhibited in a touring exhibition, From the Land to the Sky including Hindley Library and Community Centre (26-31st July), Ainsdale Sand Dunes NNR (1-8th August), RSPB Leighton Moss (9-15th August) and the Nan Tait Centre, Barrow-in-Furness 3rd October to 7th November 2022.
