Barrow Tarot as part of Origins and Afterlives

A nice little bit of news this month, as Barrow Tarot will feature as part of a new exhibition at the Warburg Institute in London, Tarot – Origins and Afterlives. The exhibition “will present a sequence of critical moments from Tarot’s long history, exploring the cards’ iconographic origins and the profound transformations they have undergone in the hands of artists, mystics and writers.” Featuring some incredible rare and historic tarot decks, and the evolution of Tarot from Renaissance Europe through to contemporary adaptations, including our very own Barrow Tarot deck!

The exhibition will run from 31st January to 30th April this year, open Tuesday to Saturday and free to attend, but you will need to book ahead so make sure you do so via the website here

Special thanks to curator Jonathan Allen, Associate Fellow at the Warburg Institute for picking up on the Barrow Tarot, and the wonderful team at Art Gene for commissioning the work in the first place! More about the project, which was originally created in 2019/2020 here

Update: 30th April 2025

At the end of last month (March) I was finally able to get down and visit the Tarot: Origins and Afterlives exhibition, and also host an evening of Barrow Tarot readings within the exhibitions Tarotkammer space, a collection of contemporary decks housed within Edmund de Waal’s porcelain library of exile space. It was a really special way to spend the evening sharing stories and exploring possible futures of every kind through the Barrow Tarot deck.
