I’ve recently been invited by the lovely folks at Lateral North to spend a bit of time in Ruchazie, Glasgow exploring a green space site that has been reclaimed by nature as it transforms into a community growing and play space for the local area.
At the start of the month we took part in the Ruchazie Fun Day, inviting kids and young people to think about their area and what sort of designs we could create to represent the new growing space. The plan is to turn some of these designs into flags that can signal when the site has activities happening, and to help inform and gather ideas for more creative action in and around the other activities taking place. It was also a great opportunity to meet some friendly faces and hear about the area, which is new to me. From favourite birds to favourite football teams, histories of rhubarb and school stories and even a (brief) sighting of the contentious water vole – it was a warm welcome for us.
Plenty more to come on this one, hopefully!
