Close Enough

Photo credits and thanks go out to Colin Tennant for these shots, more on his flickr account.

Here are some of the first shots of Close Enough. In the end it played out as several related if not interconnected tests and experiments in the close. The can of worms has been opened, and this is not the end, more the beginning of something else.

As ever there are a whole load of folk to thank, thanks to my patient and caring Stovie family and friends. Artist assistant mum, everyone who took time out to chat and consider and offer suggestions. Perseverance. It’s been the word of the month. Now it’s nearly over and the last week is one of breathing deep and recollecting.

“I have been one acquainted with the night.

I have walked out in rain – and back in rain.

I have outwalked the furthest city light.”

Robert Frost – Acquainted with the Night

This work speaks for itself. Videos to follow when internet speeds improve. I’m hoping to show these and the rest of the body of work produced as part of the Salt of the Earth (Solway) project in the near future, keep posted for the details.

Not worth his salt.

Salt of the earth.

Salting the earth – the ritual of spreading salt on conquered cities, a curse on their re-inhabitation.

Matthew 5:13

“Ye are the salt of the earth

but if the salt have lost his

savour, wherewith shall it be

salted? It is thenceforth good for

nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under

foot of  man.”

Above the salt.

Worth their salt.

Below the salt.

Take with a pinch of salt.
